Hong Kong Style Beef Curry (港式咖哩牛腩飯)

One of my favorite Hong Kong lunch specialties is the beef curry over rice or pasta.  You'll find this dish at most of the local Hong Kong cafes and eateries.  Instead of mixing the spices for the curry, I usually just use curry powder and the Japanese curry blocks which you'll have in many Asian supermarkets.

Ingredients:
1 lb        Beef Brisket
1 cup     Carrots (cut into big chunks)
1/2 cup  Onion (chopped)
1 or 2     Potatoes
2 tsp       Curry Powder
3            Japanese Curry Blocks
2 cups    Chicken Stock

Methods:

  1. Braise the beef brisket until tender (please see my Beef Tendon recipe)
  2. Heat up a pot, saute onion and carrots with oil, then stir in curry powder
  3. Add chicken stock to the pot and bring to boil
  4. Stir in curry blocks and beef brisket
  5. Salt and pepper to taste
Serve hot with rice or pasta.

Enjoy!
