Do you like Japanese Chashu? I do ! It is one of my favorite ramen toppings. Many recipes call for hours of cooking to make this delicious pork slices. I just came up with a super easy and simple way to replicate this yummy Japanese chashu (more like cheating..LOL) in less than 30 minutes.
Ingredient:
8 pieces Pork Belly Slices (cut into quarter inch thick)
2 Tbsp Dark Soy Sauce
1 tsp Japanese Mirin
1 Tbsp Sugar
4 Cups Water
2 pieces Ginger
1 Green Onion
4 Cups Water
Salt & Pepper
Method:
- Put water, ginger and onion in a pan and bring to a boil
- Cook the pork belly in the ginger and green onion water for about 15 minutes or until the pork belly is tender
- Take the pork belly out and dry with paper towel
- In a small bowl, combine dark soy sauce, mirin and sugar
- Sprinkle salt and pepper onto the pork belly, then rub the dark soy sauce mixture onto each pork belly
- Lay the pork belly onto a cookie sheet or baking tray
- Use a kitchen torch to sear both sides of the pork belly. (or you can use a grill pan)
Japanese Chashu is DONE !
Put the Chashu slices onto your favorite bowl of ramen and meal is served !
